Longing For The Embers

If I could capture the night, I would
But I can't
To go back and dive into the darkness
would be a strange joy
To seize the moments of waste
and transform them into vibrant substance
Maybe it was as it had to be
The secrets locked away
Dreams break through the night
Taunting me
directing me down paths of futility
Able to touch only so much
I can see the faces
the words coming earnestly
Grasping traces
the fires fading away
longing for the embers
The numbness now engulfs us
memories betray us
becoming a sideshow of desire
I want to reach out and grab hold
keep it close to me
without getting burned
