Pain

Is the pain gone
It felt as if it would never go away
A living reminder of past misadventures
Throbbing and twisting beneath the skin

Emotional pain can be just as bad
Smashing us hard in our chests
Pushing down on our faces
Making us somber and despondent

The darkness makes us sink
Be it from karma or chance
Drowning us in the abyss
Of brooding exile

We seem distant and removed
Taciturn and withdrawn
Flying on fractured wings
Broken blood vessels and ruptured tissue

Our hearts are wounded yet will not scab
The emotional weight felt with every step
Isolation in a crowd
Obscuring our vision

Without pain we would not know pleasure
A dichotomy of madness
Trapped in an illusory cycle
Until what end
