The Most Important Lies

The past is all around me
Inspiration and curse
At the time parts of it seemed
Unbearable
Parts of it
Triumphant
The past is a road that has been laid
A pathway into the future
We draw our strength from yesterday
Lessons have been learned
Hearts are still beating
The future seems easier than before
Since so much of it has elapsed
Into the past
The present is more centered
The Now more defined
Life is a fever
That breaks at a certain point
But the fire remains
Smoldering inside
Burning unexpected tangents
Our life force more focused
As long as we can be honest
And try to shake away
The most important lies
That cover who we are
And what we want
From the world
From ourselves

Dedicated to Rimbaud. He is 151 in age and in proof.
