Memories In Mind And In Heart

Death is not the end
He was there when I needed a friend
Dark nights long ago
Riding on his motorcycle together
Through the L.A. streets
I showed him Hollywood and Downtown
He wore a gold chain from nose to ear
I shoved the safety pin through his ear lobe
Hanging out at Al's Bar
Eventually we got a car
We jammed on bass and guitar
I sang him songs like we were stars
Debauched nights and storied days
Together we even got laid
He was like a brother and always there
At the movies
At my first performance
He taught me how to drive
Wild times defined us then
Plenty of beer and wine and gin
Cigarette smoke in the air
Powder, herb on a dare
When I had nowhere to go
He would go with me
And vice versa
Then one day we drifted apart
All that was left was the art
Memories in mind and in heart
Until we meet on the other side
